Inspiring Change
MOSES THE SHEPHERD
June 3rd, 2009Every night when I put my daughter Miriam to sleep, she asks for a story. I told her this one a few nights ago. I’ve read it many times before, yet it impacted me in a way different than ever before.
The story is about the Baal Shem Tov, a great soul and righteous person, who was told through divine inspiration about a person whose spiritual work was greater than his. His name was Moses the Shepherd.
The great master was eager to meet this person, so he gathered a few students and mounted a carriage to the village, not too far away.
SADNESS
June 2nd, 2009We think we are sad because things don't go our way. In truth, things don't go our way because we are sad.
LIGHT FROM DARKNESS
May 21st, 2009The great kabbalists were known to use frequently their visions to know people’s prayers to the Creator, as well as the response. One Yom Kippur, the highest day of the year, after the prayers and services were concluded, a kabbalist turned to his student, an over-worked pub owner, and said, “I know what you asked the Creator for.

As I See Myself
May 7th, 2009One of the most powerful lessons I have learned is that we can all be doing so much more. We can be doing more to help the world, more for our loved ones, and more for ourselves. The reason we don’t is because we think we’re insignificant.

Many of us downplay who we are, feeling we are just small cogs in a much larger wheel. Change the world? Please. That’s for presidents, world leaders, celebrities, and holy men. I’m just one person.
Send in the Clown
April 30th, 2009The purpose of sharing is not to do a good action, but it is to change who we are and to bring blessings and protection into our life.
Cry With You
March 26th, 2009I’d like to share with you a story I continue to find, even many years after first hearing it and retelling it countless times, a great reminder and inspiration. I trust it will be for you too.
A man makes the long journey to his teacher and tells him that his son is in a terrible condition and that the doctors have given up hope. Without his teacher’s intercession, the man’s son will certainly die.
“Is there anything that you can do to help?” he asks. The spiritual master prays and meditates.
It’s All Prepared
March 17th, 2009Problems will easily overwhelm us if we think that coming up with the solution is entirely up to us. However, if we realize the solution has already been prepared in advance and all we have to do is create a little opening for it to come in, then the solution manifests itself far easier.
There is a teaching from the 18th century kabbalist, Rav Elimelech of Lizhensk, in which he quotes a verse from King David, “God, you have done great things.
